Berlin Hohenweg. Day 2. Mayrhofen to Gamshutte.

 21 July 2017

This was supposed to be a rather easy day. The guidebook indicated 3 hours as the time of hiking to the hut. Perhaps because of our jet lags, or perhaps because we are no longer that young, that we hiked for about 5 hours.

From Mayrhofen we took this bus ...

... to Finkenberg. We went too far, and then had to wait for a returning bus.

We crossed Teufelsbrucke Bridge over Tuxbach River ...

... and hit the trail #533 towards Gamshutte.

The trail through the lush forest of Kraxentrager was very pleasant.

And yet, we struggled a bit on account of our jet lag.

However, we were compensated by the beautiful views opening up.

This mountain cross reminded us that we were hiking through Christian lands.

Shortly before the hut, we were almost caught by rain. We literally escaped the first drops of the storm. It felt good, and safe, within the warm walls of the hut. I don't remember what we had for supper, but I am pretty sure, it was accompanied by a carafe of wine. We were happy to be in the mountains again, and, after all the wine, we slept like babies.

To be continued:

Day 3. Gamshutte to Friesenberghaus.
