Noseeum Lake is a fine lake in Banff National Park. Our objective, to say the truth, was Noseeum Peak, which is above 3000 meters. However, the weather was uncertain and looking for a trail in dense fog didn't appeal to us. The whole trail to the lake is very interesting though, even if often confusing on the way. Having three GPS devices in our group, we still lost quite a bit of time trying to find the right path.
After spending a wet night in Mosquito Creek Hostel (we joked that we came to the mountains two days too early), we hit the trail around 8:00 am. From the left: Maya, Mike, Bożenna, and Roman. (Missing this writer).
The hike along Noseeum Creek is not without its challenges. The trail is vague at times. In our experience, hiking as close to the creek as possible was the best choice.
Then came the headwall.
Shortly before the crux, we had to cross the creek. I was filming Roman, hoping he would fall into the creek, but this time he refused (see the Helen Lake hike story).
The headwall is steep but not particularly dangerous, if you find the right entry into it.
This is how it looks (pictures taken on the way down). Bożenna negotiated it fearlessly!
Above the headwall the atmosphere became more relaxed. Roman was obviously impressed with Maya's colorful helmet, indicating many of her trophies.
We reached the lake around noon and had a little rest.
Not liking "interrupted intercourses," and realizing we had little chance to reach the summit that day, Roman voted for going back. However, Maya and Mike still explored the terrain above the lake for about 1 hour.
After the clouds cleared, the view of the valley from the headwall was very rewarding ...
... and Roman's technique (of going down) impressive.
The weather improved so the rest of the hike was quite pleasant.
The next morning Mike took a dip in the majestic, but very cold, Bow Lake. This time - to honor the birthday of Barbara, his girl-friend, - in his swimming shorts! O Chrancuzie!
On the way home, in Calgary, we visited with Basia Ulkowska (dropped off her jacket) ...
... who treated us like some royals.
Roman even got a schnapps, which, being a driver during this trip, I'll never forgive him for!

That was a beautiful day and please put on hiking list for 2025 👍❤️
