Ela Tomczyk Classic - Expanded

Saturday, 20 Oct 2018

Bike ride, 24 km, 2.5 h. (Clicking on pictures allows to see them in original size)

Ela Tomczyk Classic was very successful in 2017 (see photostory). Not surprisingly 12 bikers showed up for this year's edition (two more persons attended the social part). From the left: (front row) Roman, Dusia, Marek, Piotr, Asia, Teresa and Wieslaw. Back row: Bogdan, Madam Leader, and Mike.

It was an impressive thing to see. All these magnificent men ...

... and women ...

... on their magnificent machines, championed by Madam Leader:

Having the only electric bike in the group, Madam Leader was either at the front, showing directions, or at the back, checking if her husband, Bogdan ...

... kept everything together. He did!

As in the previous trips, we couldn't go without the ritual of pumping women's bikes. Men in our club are so chevaleresque!

After about 15 minutes we reached the bridge over Terwilliger Drive ...

... where Mike picked up this blond beauty! He must have got some French genes in himself!

Shortly thereafter, not far from Anthony Hendey Bridge, we arrived at the banks of our beautiful North Saskatchewan River.

At Terwilliger Bridge we met Jacek, one of the founding members and Honorary Member of Polish Men and Women Mountaineering Club of Edmonton!

As normally none photographs me, I have no choice but to crack a periodic selfie.

Unlike the last year, when from Fort Edmonton Footbridge we proceeded to the Tomczyks' house directly, this time Madam Leader asked us to bike along the river and through Belgravia and the University filed, adding roughly 10 km to the trip.

Killer's Road took toll on many of us. Exhausted we arrived at Ela and Bogdan's place hoping for some "light refreshments."

What welcomed us was a "wypas" (feast): eggs in mayonnaise, ribs, exquisite pate, and three kind of cakes!

We were joined by Joanna ...

... and Grazyna, both of whom, with their two fingers over the heart, promised to actively participate in the next bike trip (watch for info). With a nice stretch of weather, we may get lucky again and satisfy two Conditions for Happiness: Physical Activity and Social Connectedness!

See you there. Piotr.
