Having spent lots of energy the previous day on Mt. Nestor, where we scrambled over 1000 meters of vertical gain, I was looking for something easy to do the next day. With Mike we took advantage of having bicycles with us, and after a bit of negotiation, decided to take Banff Legacy Trail from Banff to Canmore.
One of the advantages of the trail is that it goes mostly down. In this respect it reminded me of Donauweg, the bike trail down Danube River in Austria, which I did a few years ago with my dear friend, Jacek Węgrzyn. He was thus often on my mind.
In fact, for a while the trail followed the bed of Bow River - high in the mountains it couldn't compete with Danube.
The trail is quite scenic, having high ranges on both of its sides ...
... with Cascade Mountain being more prominent near Banff ...
... and Mt. Rundle closer to Canmore.
The trail is very well maintained and thus safe. It is very popular, with hundreds of bicyclists riding in both directions.
Soon it was time to say good-bye to one of Canada's jewels - Banff National Park.
Shortly thereafter, the unmistaken shapes of Ha Ling (on the right) and Three Sisters (on the left) were indicative that we were getting close to Canmore.
Canmore seems to have improved after a part of the Main Street was closed to the traffic.
We concluded with Mike ...
... that the trip was a "no-brainer."
Soon we reconnected with Roman who, by agreeing to drive Mike's car from Banff to Canmore, made our bike ride simple and pleasant.
In the famous Wood Restaurant we went for their specialty - bison burger! (I know, I know, as vegetarian, Jacek would disapprove).
Our only regret was that we didn't have this fine weather the previous day - on Mt. Nestor and Mt. Rundle.
Oh well, the view of Ha Ling above our beer was also very rewarding. Cheers!
