Baldy Fire Lookout, Coliseum Mountain (1 and 2) & Crescent Falls
When the mountains are calling, never say no
Forced to stop by a Tonka truck at the Genesee Power Plant
Evening hike to Baldy Fire Lookout (2090 m)
At the back there is our objective for the next day - Coliseum Mountain
Baldy was only 400 m elevation gain to the summit, but nice hike
You could 'easily' cycle to the summit, but definitely cycle down
Setting up for the hike. Looks like someone missed the memo - Pawel is not going
Guess which one is Pawel?
Team says bye and off we go
Hike is easy, but it requires some skills - Ewa knows how to jump
Relatively fast we get enough elevation gain to see beautiful foothills
But you still need to work for the view
Path to the summit goes on the ridge to the right - such a scenic walk
Most of the 700 m elevation gain is already behind us
Enjoyable walk on the rocky part
The summit is like an alpine meadow. It is only 2035 m, but views west to the Rockies
and east to the Prairies are fantastic.
Lunch at the summit. Sandwich with a hard boiled egg - great memories
I convinced Jola to explore the 'other' summit (2030 m)
So in this picture you can see the cairn for 2030 m, true summit at 2035 m and right behind it Baldy at 2090 m. I call it three summits in two days
This is Nordegg area map. Includes the track to the summit of Coliseum Mountain
Shunda is the old name of the Baldy Fire Lookout
But the day is long in Alberta in the summer, so we had time to walk to Crescent Falls
Coming up from the creek bed was tricky and demanding
Grand Canyon of Alberta. Total for the day - 40k steps
Lunch at Brazeau Reservoir with Power Plant concludes the voyage
Thank you Ewa and Pawel for your hospitality
Great exploits, Yanek, in the area seldom visited by the members of our Club. Lovely partners! P.S. Could you perhaps add a map showing the area of the trip?
