River Project - First Leg - Devon to Whitemud Crossing

For the First Leg of the proposed River Project (kayaking on North Saskatchewan River from Devon to Fort Saskatchewan) only one person showed up - Fearless Elżbieta Tomczyk! The day was gorgeous and the river was at her best.

One of the pleasures of kayaking on the river is that it requires very little of ... paddling! Naturally, to use our time well, we engaged with Elzbieta in all kind of enlightening conversations. By the time we reached Anthony Henday Bridge we analyzed in depth marriage as a spiritual practice.

When we were caught up by some canoeists, we were practically done with the topic of Buddhism and "the power of now." Beautiful day and wonderful river were making our practice of "the now" very pleasant!

We alarmed a few ducks with the idea that we "are not the bodies" but rather parts of "the ocean of consciousness."

After discussing the karma of sex, we had to cool our heads off with a bit of shade we could find.

Bathing dogs were a sign that we reached Terwilliger Park. At that point, being somewhat on defensive, I tried to persuade Elzbieta that "not all men are dogs."

Near Terwilliger Bridge we discussed ...

... the force that draws men toward women and women toward men.

By the time we reached Fort Edmonton Footbridge, we were done with the subject of the "self-healing power of human body."

When some boarders passed us near Quesnell Bridge, we were elaborating on the quantum of physics, "quantum field," and general "complexity of life itself."

This is where, after 5 hours of kayaking, and covering 32 km of our beautiful river, we finally disembarked.

Thank you, Elzbieta! It was a very fine trip indeed!

Those interested, I inform that the Second Leg of the River Project - Laurier Park to Capilano (50th Street) Landing will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, 28th of July. Meeting at Laurier Park's boat launch at 10:00 am. The trip is expected to take 3-4 hours. All are welcome!
