Jasper, Jasper in my Heart

Morro Peak, Bald Hills and Maligne Canyon

Another unplanned trip to the Rockies.

First adventure is to summit the Morro Peak (1675m).

Not too much elevation gain, but steep, very steep.

This one is a constant climb on the West slope.

Did I mention that it was steep?

Once you are on the top, you realize that this is not a hike, it is The Way of the Cross.

Views from the top are very rewarding. It is also fantastic spot for the lunch.
Hawk Mountain in the background.

However The Way of the Cross starts again right after you start to descent.

Now you can feel the steepness of that hike. Lose chips are adding extra level of difficulty.

You will  see many planes below, as the Jasper Airport is just under it.

We were quite happy to finally get to the end of this one.

Bald Hills - another half a day hike around Maligne Lake.

Relatively easy access to the top of the ridge. Once you are on top, you will see how many different hikes are available to tackle.

Our GPS plot

Beauty of the Maligne Lake

Places to lunch, enjoy little chipmunks, or try to spot the marmot.

No luck to see  Caribou. but this is just funny and pleasant hike.

And the views of the Maligne Lake and surrounding summits are breathtaking.

Maligne Canyon is always fun to explore.

Medicine Lake was very high, so water in the canyon was rushing very fast.

It is easy to understand how this water is able to erode the rock.

And the best part is that you can treat yourself with fantastic lunch or supper at the smoke house. Maligne Canyon Wilderness Kitchen offers variety of  options from their smoke house. Just try to book, as sitting is limited with health restrictions.

Oh Jasper!
