2025 Season Opener - Sulphur Skyline

As a few times in the past, we initiated the season with a hike to Sulphur Skyline (2070 m) near Miette Hot Springs in Jasper National Park. It is a relatively short trail (7km) with 700 m of altitude gain. 

Sulphur Skyline - Thanksgiving tradition!

Tradition, tradition, tradition! It has been a tradition in our Club to go to Sulphur Skyline on Thanksgiving weekend, tradition interrupted only by occasions of bad weather. The attractive aspect of this hike is that it can be combined with the visit to Miette Hot Springs, just before is closes for the winter season. 

There were years when we already had a bit of snow on the mountain (for instance, see the story from the year 2018 - here). This year the weather was fantastic so it attracted crowds!

Tonquin and Eremite Valleys, Mt. Clitoris, or three days in the mud.

Hearing that some of our club members haven't seen the Ramparts, the iconic rock formation of Canada, which I first saw on a poster shortly after immigrating to this country, I decided to organize a trip to Tonquin Valley. I was lucky to book 6 spots in Wates-Gibson Hut, about 5 kilometers from the Ramparts. Myself I visited Tonquin Valley in 1993. This is not an easy hike - about 16 kilometers long (my GPS showing over 18 km to Wates-Gibson) and you have to carry food and everything for 2-3 days.

Knowing that "personal hygiene" may be problematic in the following days, with my companions - Roman, Teresa, Ken, Asia and Mike - we did preventatively a bit of "water purification" in Miette Hot Springs on Friday, 2 August.

Tradycyjnie, w sobotę przed Swiętem Dziękczynienia, wybraliśmy się do Miette Hot Springs. Solidną, sześcioosobową ekipę zabrał tym razem, pewną ręką, Janusz Gatnicki. Koło basenu spotkaliśmy się z Kierownikiem Wyprawy, wracającym z BC, Michałem.

Od lewej: Janusz, Barbara, Piotr, Kasia, Andrzej, Sławek i Michał. Barbara i Sławek wybrali opcję "moczenia się." Pozostali uderzyliśmy w trasę na Sulphur Skyline (2070 m, 700 m różnicy wzniesień).

Będąc dumnym posiadaczem, od kilku miesięcy, owczarka staroniemieckiego o imieniu Ged, postanowiłem wypróbować, czy można z nim pójść w góry. W czasie jak Grupa Szturmowa atakowała Roche Miette (byłem na tej górze z siedem razy), podjąłem się poprowadzić Panie na Sulphur Skyline, popularny szlak koło Miette Hot Springs.
