Today Category B - Roman Lipiecki Award - "Mountain Landscapes." The purpose of this category is to pick the best photos that show the beauty of the mountains. Human characters are typically absent from these photos, or, if they are present, they are marginal.
2013 - Barbara Krzymień - "Taka kawa?"
As this category didn't exist yet in the first two photo-contests, and I don't remember the voting, somewhat arbitrarily I picked up this photo by Basia Krzymien, showing the famous Takakkaw Waterfall in Yoho National Park, Canada. There is a bit of a word play in the title. "Taka kawa?" means "This coffee?" in Polish.
2014 - Roman Lipiecki - "Cloudy valley"
This photo won the whole competition in 2014. It shows the view toward Paradise Valley, from Sentinel Pass, on the way to Mt. Temple, Canadian Rockies, Alberta. Voters were stressing the mysterious atmosphere of this photo and overall nice composition. There is a lot to be seen in fore-, middle- and background.
2015 - Barbara Krzymień - "Laghetto Moesola"
This photo shows Lake Moesola in Switzerland. The voters liked the reflection of the mountains in the lake, and a nice interplay of the setting sunlight and the shade.2016 - Roman Lipiecki - "Mirror reflection in Maligne Lake"
2017 - Judy Haig - "The Mount Blanc Circuit is ... blanc!"
As indicated by the title the photo was taken during the trek around Mt. Blanc, on the border between France and Italy. The comment below seems to reflect what the voters liked about this photo:
"Beautiful light in this picture, lots of sun and the majestic shapes of the Alps! The picture makes want you to be there!" (Peter)
2018 - Yanek Wojcik - "Lake O'Hara in its beauty"
Panoramic picture of Lake O'Hara, in Yoho National Park, one of the jewels of Canadian Rockies, which inspired numerous poets, painters and photographers, claimed the first place. Here are some comments about this photo:
This picture, especially if you look at it in the original size, seems to have ... everything! A trail, both Oesa and O’Hara Lakes not too mention “zajebisty” range of the mountains! A true pearl, I believe! (Piotr) A fantastic panorama, which you could look at for hours and still discover some new interesting details. (Piotr) Piękna panorama, dobry kadr oddający piękno gór i zachęcający widza do kontemplowania się widokiem. Dwie osoby na szlaku potęgują skale i perspektywę majestatu gór. Czuć radosna atmosfera zdjęcia upamiętniającego szczęśliwe chwile na górskich szlakach. Klasyczne zdjęcie dla klubu górskiego... (Jacek) Piękny widok! (Roman) Lake O'Hara jest najpiękniejsze. (Yanek)
2019 - Basia Krzymien - "Mountains and icebergs"
Another panoramic picture by Basia Krzymien allowed her to claim the first prize for the third time! This is, in fact, a stunning picture taken somewhere in Iceland. Here are some of the comments about this photo:
This is a truly unique photo, unlike of most of other submissions! We have ice in our mountains but not ... icebergs! Beautiful light in this picture, and serene, relaxed atmosphere. (Piotr) This photo is so nice that it looks almost surreal. It looks like a post card. Not every day we can see such a nice combination of water, floating icebergs, people, mountains. I like especially so many shades of blue, each one being different and each one being unique. (Mikele) „Z tej perspektywy nawet Islandia wygląda pięknie.” (”From this viewpoint even Iceland looks fabulous”). (Witek)
2020 - Jacek Maciaszczyk - "Autumn colors"
The photo was taken in Jasper National Park, near the town of Jasper, possibly toward Mt. Colin Range. Here are some comments about it:
"Cliche, but it just is, as everything that mother nature gives us - it just is." (Boris) In fact nice colors, showed in good light. What I like about this photo is that in the lake there is a reflection of not just one mountain but the whole range! Great photo! (Piotr)
2021 - Marek Kucmierz - "Kaskawulsh Glacier"
This is was the first time the first prize was claimed by an aerial photo. It shows Kaskawulsh Glacier in Yukon, Canada. Here are some of the comments about this photo:
This is a truly amazing photo and I give it the first place (3 points). One could only be proud that a photo like this was taken by a member of our club. The view of these icefields is ... “zajebisty,” (which is Polish for “magnificent”). Also the mountains in the background represent an interesting cluster of shapes. (Piotr) Slowly flowing. (Andy.) It seems to be one of the most original photos taken by the members of our club. (MK) Mój wybór to: B10. Komentarz: Moje kryteria do wyboru są proste; które z tych zdjęć chciałbym oprawić w ramki i powiesić na ścianie? Wybrałem B10! (Roman) I think I will also frame this picture. It is … magnifique! (Piotr)
Now, it is time for 2022 photos! Go for it!
