Back on the River.

Devon Voyager Park to Laurier Park in Edmonton, 33 km, 6.5 h

In spite of a hot weather, it was cool to be on the River again.

We started, as usual, near the bridge in Devon. Piotr and Joanna participated in our kayaking trips in the past, but it was nice to see some new faces like Barbara ...

... and Krzysztof.

Elzbieta (right), an experienced kayaker, did this trip with me last year. For Teresa, it was her first time on the River. (Not surprisingly she was shortly stuck in some shallow waters).

It was a great day for Mike who was having a "maiden voyage" on a new kayak he received for the Father's Day.

Bogdan, conveniently (?), got a back ache, so he didn't kayak, but was of great "logistic" assistance.

Marian and Andy followed on canoe. Marian was paddling as Andy was busy ... taking pictures and filming.

Initially, we were all hungry for the sunshine.

However, as the day progressed, finding a bit of shade became a priority. Lucky Piotr - strong paddling on Joanna's part allowed him to enjoy a beer.

With Ela we enjoyed a few meaningful conversations, while lagging behind the pack. However, the relentless sun affected Ela's eyes, and she decided to end the trip around Rabbit Hill. Luckily, she had Bogdan to "rescue her."

The heat made Asia to go for a swim. Being an ardent swimmer, she swam faster than Marian and Andy were canoeing!

It was also duly noted that when Asia undressed (for her swim), Andy lost his paddle and I lost one of my paddling gloves! (This moment was recorded in Andy's excellent video from the trip - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHvBLm_JK-4)

After this "treat" the boys were giving Asia a "lift" for a few nautical miles! Such is the power of womanhood!

After the trip, we met for a little "social" at my place.

We were joined by Marta (and Lukasz) who inaugurated their inflatable boards on the river ...

... and some other very attractive women who didn't have anything to do with the River that day!

We even had a little Beauty Pageant with Beata definitely squeezing into the final six! For this group of women I am willing to return on the River even in +42C!

Until the next time,

Piotr.

P.S. And do not miss Andy's fantastic clip from this trip - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHvBLm_JK-4

  1. Great story telling with a good sense of humor.
I will add to the story that while kayaking is fun, but there are some people like our drivers who make it all possible. My driver was Roman, which I should mention with gratitude.
Attention everybody: Next time I will volunteer to be the driver and I will assist with logistics, since logistics is always a big deal for most people.
