In spite of the Arctic Vortex that has befallen on Alberta, last Sunday, a group of the club members met in Hawrylak Park. After so many rounds of cross-country skiing (in my case, two), we gathered, respecting social distancing guidelines as much as possible, to "uplift our spirits."
Thermoses with "grzaniec," known in some circles as "varene vino," started to circulate, quickly warming us from inside.
But the main attraction happened to be home baked bread, with schmaltz and pickles!
Elżbieta, known also as "Pani Kierowniczka," and her impressive husband, Bogdan, arrived at the right moment ...
... to join the others in the festivities. Altogether, this was a great initiative to combine physical activity, enjoyment of the outdoor and fresh air, with a social moment, so important in maintaining our mental health through these pandemic times. One should add that this initiative belonged first of all to our Vice-President, Mike, who, unfortunately, a day earlier, broke his leg while downhill skiing. It seems to demonstrate that XC is much better!
